As soon as I laid eyes on my new boss, I knew I was in trouble. He was beautiful. The kind of beautiful that makes it hard to focus on anything else. Eyes that hypnotize you and a full mouth I couldn’t stop staring at. Luckily, I was just being introduced to him that day and had time to pull myself together before starting on Monday.

This is a temp job. My boss is from the corporate office in Arkansas. One of the goals I set in prison was no relationships the first six months out. These are the things I am going to have to continue to remind myself of while working with this man…

There was no power in the office yet, so he told me I could ride around the job site with him to get my hours in. He likes to talk. A lot. He’s a smart ass (like me), and he’s single. Which, of course, is exactly what I did not need.

For the first couple weeks we spent most of our days driving around the site together. We have great banter. Our personalities and sense of humor are similar. He takes me to lunch every day and insists on paying. There is definitely some kind of chemistry, but he’s also a charmer and a flirt. I think he feels it too… but sometimes it’s hard to tell.

He went back to Arkansas to get his motorcycle over New Year’s weekend. We had texted a little after work before that, but New Year’s Eve was the first time he texted me on a personal level. First he told me he had listened to my favorite band I mentioned earlier in the week.

I was swooning while my roommate kept telling me to be careful.

And I know I should be careful.

Then he sent me a link to Manatee Park and said he wanted to take me there one day on our lunch break.

And suddenly the reality of my situation hit me like a ton of bricks.

Is Manatee Park even in Lee County? I can’t even leave the county right now because of probation. How would I explain that?

If this means he is actually interested in me… does that mean he might Google me? Look me up on Facebook?

I can’t even get into one of my old Facebook accounts, and it has some pretty rough comments about my arrest.

And just like that, the hot boss dilemma got a lot more complicated.
